I have been following the whole Virginia Tech situation very closely and I truly have no words. As more and more information comes to light, there are all these discussions happening about how something like this can be prevented. The sad and truly scary thing is that it couldn’t have been. That man was genuinely disturbed, he hade major issues and it was not a secret. The university tried to get him help and they acknowledged that he had issues, but really it is impossible to truly imagine that something that this could ever happen. One of the truly sad things about this type of situation is the aftermath. I was on campus the other day leaving a meeting and I was walking behind two students who were discussing Virginia Tech and the things that were coming out of their mouths was really sad. Now all of a sudden every Asian student who walked past them was a potential killer and they were saying that the Asian students needed to be monitored more closely. This is exactly the problem with our society. Because one person does something horrible, now all of a sudden, every person who looks like them, or fits their racial profile, is the same exact way. How can we get this to stop? You now have the entire country of South Korea jumping through hoops trying to make sure that we (AMERICA) understands that they had nothing to do with this incident. Of course they didn’t! And why are they going through all of this? Because they know how we are. Suddenly things will get funny with South Korea because of one incident. I’m not downplaying what happened. It was horrible and unbelievable and I know that it will be a long time coming before true healing comes, but we need to look at the individual for his choices and leave it at that. That man made those choices and decided to do what he did. He did it on his own, for his own beliefs and his own reasons. It is so easy to point fingers and place the blame on whatever you can, as long as its not you. As long as it’s clear that you are and your people had nothing to do with this, it’s all good. Instead of pointing fingers and placing blame why don’t we focus on what’s important? People lost their lives, people were injured, people are scarred for life. There is no point in trying to point fingers and place blame. We know who did it, and we know why. The questions have been answered. Now its time to really focus and begin to heal.

in addendum, i happened to catch some of the midnight showing of entertainment tonight or inside edition (whatever that stuff is - i don't watch it) after sex and the city. top story: explaining why cbs decided to broadcast the guy's personal videos to the world. issue at hand: gloryifying the murder and the murderer (and WHY is this a problem? how does showing who this cat is glorify him? if anything it makes the nation aware of what he looks like and the type of person we're dealing with so that if anyone sees him on the streets, he can be taken down. that was actually a foolish move on his part, because now he must remain in perpetual hiding from everyone. anyone who sees him and doesn't do anything - and i'm not talkin about takin' measures into their own hands, althought it would be understandably warranted - though extremely dangerous, it becomes that person's responsiblity. this is not a game. clearly people's lives are at stake and they have the right to put a face to the threat). immediately following this was a walk through of the wackest investigation on ERF! it depicted said reporter walking into a local post office (commenting in detail on its architecture and the time period in which it was built) and saying that the killer "would have filled out an express mailing envelope - 'like this one' and would have paid for postage at a counter - 'like this one'. after indicating that the killer got CBS's mailing address incorrect, and had put as the return address "revol" lane or something (which, the reporter stated) is LOVER backwards and the beginning of the word REVOLUTION - the television program proceeded to show various clips and playbills of movies with angry looking asains, and mafioso men with guns that matched photos the killer had taken of himself. CLEARLY, this showed that the killer was influenced by these violent films....excuse me, but - WHAT?! I NEED THESE PEOPLE TO NEVER CONDUCT AN INVESTIGATION EVER AGAIN IN LIFE!!!! THIS IS PATHETIC AND PROBABLY THE MAIN REASON THESE KINDS OF THINGS HAPPEN! INAPPROPRIATE ATTENTION TO IRRELEVANT DETAIL while EVIDENCE OF THE OBVIOUS IS STARING THEM BLATANTLY IN THE FACE!!!! FOR EXAMPLE! (i'm quite enraged now) - WHAT POST OFFICE IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA ACCEPTS AND SENDS PACKAGES FROM A BOGUS ADDRESS???? HAVING WORKED IN A MAILROOM - mediocre, i know - THE COMPUTER AUTOMATICALLY CHECKS BOTH ADDRESSES FOR YOU TO ENSURE CORRECT AND SPEEDY MAILING! so, WHO WASN'T ON THEIR JOB THAT DAY? it's okay - we all mess up, we all go brain dead on the job, but let's not exacerbate the severe mental challenges it is evident this young man is facing by placing all of the blame on him. he already has the blood and terror of numerous lives on his hands. speaking of which (i honestly haven't had time to follow the story adequately) WHERE IS HE???? IS HE ARRESTED? DETAINED? IMPRISONED? SEDATED??? ridiculous. many people have seen those films they tried to link to that guy, you don't see them committing mass murders. in any case, maybe that's a sign for america to tone down the exorbitant levels of violence and sex on the screen - also premiering in commercials and ads for toothpaste now. but will that happen? probably not. this will just exacerbate things all the more.
