U.G.L.Y. Author to Partner with UC Berkeley Faculty for Campus Reading

OAKLAND, CA (February 23, 2009) –Brandelyn N. Castine will host a reading from her latest novel,
U.G.L.Y for the Berkeley community on Wednesday, February 25th. The event is sponsored by
former UC Berkeley Vice Chancellor, Genaro Padilla, who currently serves as an English professor
and Clark Kerr Faculty Resident Advisor. The reading will take place from 6 – 8 p.m. in the cafeteria
of UC Berkeley’s Clark Kerr Campus.

Castine, who has been described as the Bay Area’s best kept literary secret promises an
electrifying reading of several selections from U.G.LY. “It’s such an honor that Professor Padilla
has asked me to share my book with students,” says Castine, a Cal alum. “I’m looking forward to
meeting new readers and hearing people’s thoughts about the book,” Castine says about the
chance to read at her alma mater.  Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn about Castine’
s journey as a writer and discuss the development of the book.

As more people hear about U.G.L.Y, Castine believes that the book’s positive message will
resonate with many in the community. “U.G.L.Y. is a novel about self love, looking past
misconceptions and discovering who you really are,” says Castine. “I really hope that the book will
empower people during any obstacles they may face.”  The event is free and open to the public.

Copies of U.G.L.Y. will be available for purchase and signing by Brandelyn at the event. U.G.L.Y is
currently available on BarnesandNoble.com. For more information about the event or to schedule
